It has significantly contributed to providing labour social protection, promoting work relationships and providing safe work environments; whereas, it protects the labourer's rights to receive their due wages on time with no delay as per their work contracts and helps employers fulfill their legal obligations regarding the labourers in the easiest ways.
Under a decree issued by the minister of MOHRE, the Ministry was keen to apply the system on a regular manner according to three phases to allow companies to prepare for the application of the system commencing 2009.
The WPS has played an important and effective role in entitling labourers their basic rights to receive wages for their work, especially for low-skilled labourers who may be likely exposed to illegal practices in this regard.
The system is an innovative electronic mechanism, conducted by both MOHRE and the Central Bank. It aims at transferring the wages of labourers in the private sector through banks, exchange companies and financial institutions that provide such service. This will create a database containing updated information about the companies' commitment to pay the agreed wage; thus, enable MOHRE to monitor and follow the non-compliant companies and take preventive measures to avoid collective disputes or suspended work.
